Emergency Dental Care in Needville

man holding jaw from painWe know how upsetting dental emergencies can be, especially when they involve your family. At Needville Family Dentistry, we offer emergency dental care, so you never have to worry about who to call if your child develops a toothache or you break a tooth.

The first thing to do is call our dental office at (979) 793-5566. A helpful, knowledgeable team member will ask you what you’re experiencing so we can understand the nature of your tooth emergency. Some urgent dental problems such as an infected tooth require immediate attention; others can wait a day until our next open appointment. If you are in pain, we will do everything we can to see you the same day.

What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?

Anything out of the ordinary that concerns you concerns us. The key is to call us first. We would much rather spend a few minutes chatting with you and finding you don’t have an emergency than having you suffer needlessly.

Common dental emergencies we treat at our Needville dental office are:

  • Mild or severe tooth pain
  • Jaw pain or swelling
  • An infected or abscessed tooth
  • Swollen or bleeding gums
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Lost dental crowns or fillings

How to Help Yourself in a Dental Emergency

Tooth pain and jaw pain or swelling are always the most urgent dental emergencies. They indicate that your oral health is at serious risk due to severe tooth decay or a dental abscess or infection.

Toothaches and Infected Teeth

A root infection or dental abscess puts you in imminent danger of losing the tooth, and we would need to perform a root canal to save it. If either decay or infection has compromised too much of your tooth, we may recommend emergency tooth extraction as a last resort.

Dental Trauma

Dental trauma, such as broken or knocked-out teeth, needs to be addressed immediately. It is possible in some cases to save a knocked-out tooth, but only if we act quickly and see you within an hour or two of your accident.

Broken Tooth

A broken tooth is an urgent emergency if you are in pain or the tooth has broken off below the gum line. The treatment our dentists recommend depends on the extent and type of break, but we can often repair a broken tooth at our Needville dental office with a tooth-colored composite filling or dental crown.

Lost Fillings or Crowns

A lost filling or crown isn’t typically urgent—unless you are in pain. We’ll schedule you for our next available appointment so Dr. Kunkel or Dr. Davis can evaluate your situation and determine the next steps for protecting your tooth.
