A dental crown is one of the ways we can restore a damaged, decayed, or misshapen tooth. Dental crowns usually take two visits to Needville Family Dentistry.
Dental Crown Preparation
The first visit is when we take an impression of your mouth, design the crown, and prepare your tooth for the crown. We start by numbing your mouth with a local anesthetic, clearing away decay, and shaping the tooth so the crown can fit perfectly.
Next, we make a digital impression of the prepared tooth, and we send the impression to a lab where a specialist creates your custom restoration. In the meantime, we top your tooth with a temporary crown so you can still eat, speak, and chew with ease until your final crown is ready.
Placing the Dental Crown
Your second dental visit will be about two weeks later. We remove the temporary crown during this visit, place the final crown, and examine your smile for the proper fit, comfort, and color. If everything looks good, we cement the dental crown to your tooth, and you’re ready to face the world with a new and improved smile.
