Your child’s smile is precious, and your little one deserves the best possible oral health care. At Needville Family Dentistry, we offer children’s dentistry to toddlers, school-age children, and teenagers. Whether you’re from Needville, Rosenberg, Wharton, and any of the surrounding areas, we are pleased to invite you and your family to our dental office.

What to Expect During Your Child’s First Dental Exam

We recommend bringing your child to our dental office by their first birthday or when their first tooth emerges. We start every appointment by introducing ourselves, chatting, and ensuring your child feels comfortable and safe in our care. Our dental team has many years of experience caring for small smiles, and we consider our patients part of our extended family.

During your child’s first dental exam, we check the health and condition of their teeth, gums, tongue, cheeks, and other oral structures. We also look for signs of cavities or gum disease and their jaw and tooth development. If needed, we will gently clean their teeth and apply a fluoride or sealant treatment to keep them healthy and strong.

Preparing for Your Child’s First Visit in Needville

We understand children may be hesitant about visiting the dentist, but if parents have a positive attitude, their children will likely feel more comfortable and excited about their visit.
Here are some tips for preparing your child for their first dental visit:

  • Use positive, exciting language.
  • Make it fun for them and create excitement.
  • Mark it on your calendar; it’s a special event for both of you!
  • Celebrate your child’s smile and use positive reinforcement.

Another way you can prepare for your child’s visit is to bring them to our clinic to meet our staff and get accustomed to the sights and sounds of Needville Family Dentistry. We always enjoy meeting new and familiar faces, and bringing your child to our dental office will allow us to meet them before their appointment.

Other ways you can prepare your child for their first visit:

  • Share fun and engaging dental-related videos or books with them.
  • Count your teeth together.
  • Let them choose their own age-appropriate toothbrush, perhaps one with their favorite superhero or cartoon character.

In addition to having years of experience treating small smiles, we are also parents ourselves. You can rest assured that our team approaches each child with gentle and compassionate care.

Please get in touch with us today to schedule your child’s first dental visit or if you have any questions.

Dr. Kunkel, Dr. Davis, and our team look forward to welcoming you and your family!
